Can you imagine why? Then let’s see how Billion City works. It would be of three-dimensional, with many levels of activity. Today’s cities operate largely on a single level—the ground. The result is traffic jams, frequent accidents, and often unpleasant crowds of walking people. Billion City would have many levels, so that different transportation systems could wort getting in the way of each other. One level might be for walkers, another for electric automobiles (汽车), a third for bicycles, a fourth for high-speed automobiles, a fifth for buses and a sixth for subways. High-speed escalators (电梯), and moving sidewalld take people quickly from one level to another. By building the city both deep into the ground and high above it, there would be more room for far more people and everything else. Air and water would be recycled all the time. As a result, air would be cleaner and the water would be purer than in today’s cities. Soundproof walls would give people a quiet place and no noise would bother them. 专项练兵场 [单词练兵] 1.
